INSTRUMENT AND SPACECRAFT STATUS

* All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal, except that the Ahead
  spececraft is currently operating on IMU #2.


DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS
-------------------------------------

Week 16

* About 45 minutes of commanding was lost on both spacecraft on day 107
  (April 16) because of firewall maintenance at JPL, which was originally
  expected not to affect STEREO operations.  No data were lost.

* About 32 minutes of ranging data on the Ahead spacecraft was lost on day 107
  (April 16) during the station 45 pass, because of problems at the station.

* New C&DH macros were uploaded to Behind on day 106 (April 15), and Ahead on
  day 107 (April 16), to bring down additional star tracker data to tune up
  gyro drift calculations.

* On day 108 (April 17), PLASTIC was fully recovered from the reset that had
  occured on day 104 (April 13).

* The average daily downlink was 6.6 gigabytes for Ahead, and 6.8 gigabytes for
  Behind.

Week 17

* The average daily downlink was 7.0 gigabytes for Ahead, and 7.5 gigabytes for
  Behind.

Week 18

* Nothing unusual scheduled.

Week 19

* A momentum dump is scheduled for Ahead on day 128 (May 7) at 12:45 UT.

Week 20

* A momentum dump is scheduled for Behind on day 136 (May 15) at 22:40 UT.

Other

* The Behind spacecraft is starting to share the same section of sky as Mars.
  Thus, the Behind tracks have been shifted to very early in the morning, and
  there are very few double tracks on Behind.  On the other hand, there are a
  number of double tracks available on Ahead.

* Telemetry rates were discussed at the recent STEREO Science Working Group
  meeting.  The SSC will work out a schedule for the instrument teams to plan
  for the low telemetry rates during the extended mission.  SECCHI asked about
  DFD changes, which might be needed for the lower telemetry rates.  APL
  responded that DFD changes require several months advance notice.  No DFD
  changes are being contemplated at this time.

* NOAA reports that they anticipate needing to go to Turbo encoding on the
  STEREO beacon by the time the spacecraft reach 1 A.U., which is around
  October 2009.
