about STEREO-A close approach to Earth, August 2023
Parker Solar Probe perihelion, 2 September 2019
This figure shows the orbital configuration of STEREO Ahead (red) during
the perihelion passage of Parker Solar Probe (orange) centered on 2
September 2019. The positions of Parker Solar Probe are plotted at one
day intervals during the period when it is within 0.25 AU of the Sun. The
sense of motion is counter-clockwise. During this short period, the motions of
STEREO and the planets are negligible in the Heliocentric Earth Ecliptic
coordinate system which follows Earth's orbital period. STEREO Ahead is
in quadrature at the point of closest approach.
Note that the projected location of STEREO Behind is also plotted.

The following figure shows the progression of Parker Solar Probe
through the fields of view of the STEREO/SECCHI telescopes. The images are
simulated, based on data from earlier in the STEREO mission.
